The Far West NSW Regional Training Hub (FWNSWRTH) is funded by the Australian Government’s Rural Health Multidisciplinary Training Program to contribute to the development of a sustainable medical workforce for Far West New South Wales.
In collaboration with the Royal Flying Doctor Service, SE (RFDS-SE), Far West Local Health District (FWLHD), Primary Health Networks (PHNs) and the NSW Rural Doctors Network (RDN), the Regional Training Hub identifies and pursues opportunities to strengthen medical workforce in the region.
A key initiative of the Far West Regional Training Hub is the Destination Medicine podcast. If you’re a medical student looking for a career in rural medicine, the Destination Medicine podcast will tell you all you need to know about how to get to your destination.
The Far West Health Library provides a variety of services to health professionals, students and staff in Broken Hill and surrounding areas, offering access to resources such as books, journals and research support.
The library is a part of the Western Health Library network, which includes libraries in Dubbo, Bathurst and Orange, and provides inter-library loans, access to electronic databases and support with research priorities.
Where is the library?
The library is located at the Broken Hill University Department of Rural Health (BHUDRH) and is open from 8:30am to 5:00pm (CSDT/CST).
How can staff and students’ access?
Library membership is required to borrow items, and resources can be accessed both in-person and remotely. The library supports inter-library loans and can help staff and students connect with their institutional libraries, as well as providing remote borrowing and online access.
The BHUDRH is home to a high-definition sim-lab that includes three ceiling-mounted cameras and two microphones for recording sessions. This is operated from a control room via a one-way window. The simulation room can be used for many purposes, ranging from high-fidelity simulation sessions to communication training.
The high-fidelity Sim Lab is accompanied by a ‘skills’ room that is available for groups to practice hands-on procedures and ward-based scenarios. The focus is as much on teamwork and group dynamics as on high-tech decision making.
The Sim Lab is available to students and health organisations wanting to run training sessions.
To arrange use of the Sim-Lab, please contact Aneta Turley.
