About Us
Who We Are
The Broken Hill University Department of Rural Health, part of the University of Sydney, is funded under the Commonwealth Government’s Rural Health Multidisciplinary Training (RHMT) Program.
With three distinct campuses in Bourke, Broken Hill and Wentworth, our primary focus is creating and delivering successful student placements that change students’ perspectives of rural work and life. In collaboration with our university partners and local health sites, we offer high-quality placement programs for students in fields such as medicine, nursing, social work, pharmacy, dentistry, medical imaging and allied health.
As part of their studies, university students undertake a rural placement in our local health and community services. While on placement, we provide accommodation, social networking, interprofessional learning and wellbeing support.
By completing a placement in our Broken Hill, Wentworth and Bourke campus regions students get to see the joys of outback life, while also learning about the benefits and complexities of working in rural health.
Our student placement programs are backed by our research which focusses on addressing the unique health challenges and complexities of our region including rural workforce issues.
